Seaside Utopia

’Seaside Utopia’ was published in FotoFilmic JRNL Issue 3, which was guest-edited by Joanna Milter, director of photography for the New Yorker.

”Seaside Utopia depicts a private apartment resort in Porto, Portugal for retired residents. The facility features amenities such as a swimming pool, tennis court and soccer pitch. The place is colorful and picturesque. And yet there are no people to be seen. It’s as if photographer Juho Vesanen had shot on a movie set after the actors left. The eerie calm is enhanced by the overcast light and Vesanen’s simple, graphic framing. He says he spent an entire day there, and only saw a gardener.”
